Grundarfjörður, Iceland

Grundarfjörður, Iceland

i believe the term is tally-ho

June 28, 2014

Before I depart I must thank Dayna Cole, G. Scott Rutherford and the Valle Scholarship and Scandinavian Exchange Program at the University of Washington whose support is the sole reason this journey is possible.  A special thank you to Dayna for answering all of my questions, sometimes the same question multiple times, as I navigate this next step of my career.

I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to my Valle advisor: Rob Hutchison, my thesis committee: Kimo Griggs and Elizabeth Golden and those who supported me in the application process: Peter Cohen, Jim Nicholls and Larry Rouch.  I truly value your time and effort and I wouldn’t be here without your continued support.

Thank you all!

My steed and I have arrived safely in Iceland.  After several days to acclimate to the time change, lack of darkness and gather supplies; I am off.  I have elected to travel primarily by bicycle for several reasons, but namely, my desired cone of vision.  The faster one travels, by necessity, the narrower your cone of vision becomes.  It has to, for safety.  Bicycle will allow me to travel efficiently, stop where I desire and see the extents of the periphery.  It is not the easiest means of locomotion, but I anticipate the journey will be rich with rewards.
